To that end, we asked hairstylists, makeup artists, skincare experts, and nail stylists to share the beauty trends they’re ditching in the new year. Plus, you can try out the latest looks and techniques, because here you will learn the biggest beauty trends for 2023.

HAIR

Side-partings

Sorry Gen-Z, but we’re starting to see side parts make a comeback, once again making millennials swoon (or cringe, depending on how you wore them in the early ’00s). You can dress it in a variety of ways, whether it’s casual, muscular and slightly scruffy, flattering, voluminous, or trendy. Although I love the middle part, nobody should be married to one. Middle parts can be cute for being out and about during the day, but at night when you need to glam up a little bit, I’m totally for a more glamorous side part” shares Taylor. 

Copper 

“Kendall Jenner, SZA, and Zendaya Wear Copper Hair” are key looks for 2022. According to Google, this trend will go nowhere between the beauty trends for 2023, as searches for copper hair jumped 8,000 percent in the last month alone. “The secret to the popularity of the copper hair trend is its versatility, as copper is not a one-size-fits-all color. There are a variety of shades to choose from to suit almost every skin tone, so everyone has a choice,” Brenda noted.

“A continuation of the copper and burnt orange shades we’re seeing now, terracotta tones are expected to become more popular in 2023,” agrees Laura. Next year, we’ll start seeing bronzers and lighter shades intermingled with deeper sepia tones. After a year of ’90s nostalgia, I can see some striking 2010 ombré looks on the horizon,” she adds. SKINCARE 

  Skinimalism and Personalized Routines.

In 2023, our beauty closets will no longer be overstuffed with skincare products. Instead, we practice minimalism. “Good skincare isn’t about the quantity, it’s about the quality of the products you use. You don’t have to follow the 10-step daily plan we’ve grown accustomed to,” says Carbonari. Carbonari recommends carefully checking the ingredients of each product. “Choose products that work for your skin, not against it”

The micro skincare trend is a thing of the past. “Our skin can tell you what it needs, you just have to listen. Do your research and talk to your dermatologist to determine which ingredients and procedures are best for you.”

Gentle skincare

At the onset of the pandemic, it was important to try professional home therapy. Now experts are warning against backing down. “Some people buy chemical peels that require licensed medical supervision because they can penetrate deep into the skin and actively repair skin damage,” says Koestline. “However, there are increasing complaints of skin irritation due to overexposure to exfoliating acids.”

While Koestline strongly recommends avoiding at-home chemical peels, there are gentler alternatives that are less harsh on the skin. Look for scrubs with anti-inflammatory properties, such as sea buckthorn berry and azelaic acid, and be sure to replenish and rehydrate your skin with a post-scrub facial oil.

Building barriers

We’ve always focused on caring and caring for our skin, choosing gentle formulas to rebuild our skin barrier (especially since many active ingredients like retinol, exfoliating acids, and vitamin C can weaken skin when used in excess). Searches for this ingredient increased by 922% in 2023. The ingredient, a hardy multi-hyphenate similar to niacinamide, is the most popular skincare ingredient of 2022. “Chebula is an anti-aging Ayurvedic herb rich in antioxidants—it helps hydrate and brighten the complexion, and even repair photodamage and strengthen the skin,” says Beauty Pie.

MAKE-UP

Barefaced, but better

It’s not a new concept, but going into next year, healthy, minimal makeup looks will continue to grab the headlines. “With nourishing, radiant formulas and youthful, sun-kissed pigments, consumers will seek products that radiate a healthy and revitalized complexion,” predicts the head of the Stylus fashion show, looking the same as health-first beauty,” she said. Our approach? Take the stress out of creating perfect skin and focus on giving your skin the products it loves. Good thing this is one of the beauty trends for 2023.

Skincare as make-up

The natural complexion is the new makeup. Both Khaite and Gabriela Hearst’s Spring 2023 shows showcased the impact of Tata Harper’s masks and treatments, while Brandon Maxwell and Proenza Schouler focused on clear-skin-centric no-makeup looks. At Fendi and Altuzarra, want-to-be-bare skin is highlighted with highlighter and blush or bronzer strokes to sculpt and define, and dewy lips complete the look. Grunge glam

Among the beauty trends for 2023, grunge glam is getting big. According to Beauty Pie, searches for “Avril Lavigne makeup” have grown 39% over the past year and are still growing. We covet smudges, heavy eyeliner, fake freckles, and darker lips. NAILS AND BODY

Face and body jewelry

Decoration continues to gain traction in 2022, with more temporary decorations to emerge in 2023, helping to transform the face and body into living art. Whether you love freckled jewelry, bejeweled brows, the kind of third-eye jewelry Isamaya created for Giambattista Valli, or the myriad of surreal elements on display at Puppets and Puppets, these elements are sure to be on display in the coming months will change. Glossy manicures

The popularity of peptide-based lip care products has soared more than 400%, making it one of the biggest beauty trends of 2023, according to a report by Beauty Pie. “The Peptide Lip Treatment is a restorative way to naturally plump and soften lips while minimizing the appearance of fine lines,” says Beauty Pie, who credits her as the second-biggest skincare trend after “Chebula.” At the same time, Black Swan data also found that collagen and peptides will be popular in 2023.

We think Hailey Bieber’s new skincare line, Rhode, may have something to do with it, as her best-selling Peptide Lip Treatment has been a hit since its launch. Other celebrities, like Maddie Ziegler, took to TikTok to express their obsession with restorative, hydrating lip treatments.
